When you think of the province of Cádiz, the first thing that probably comes to mind is its miles of beaches, and a summer of relaxation or leisure activities under the sun. However, this land has much more to offer year-round. Wondering what to do in Cádiz in autumn or winter? Join us on this tour of the highlights.
Sun and beach, too, at the end of the year
Under the golden light of autumn, one of the best times of the year begins in the province of Cádiz, to calmly and savor the unique experiences it offers, far from the hustle and bustle of summer. The last months of the year in Cádiz are synonymous with good weather, vibrant nature, authentic culture, and family or couples plans that will help you rediscover the charm of the south.
All this is thanks to a privileged climate with more than 300 days of sunshine a year and average temperatures ranging between 16 and 22 degrees Celsius (61 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit) during the middle of the day. Ideal for enjoying outdoor activities, including hiking through pine forests and dunes, visits to wineries, cycling excursions, or sunset walks by the sea. All with the province’s characteristic light that tinges the sunsets of October, November, and December with gold.
From Rota, with its sea breeze and welcoming atmosphere, to Jerez de la Frontera, the land of wine, horses, and flamenco, the hotels and tourist apartments of Hoteles Andaluces con Encanto offer you the perfect starting point to experience this season with all your senses. Rota: between the Atlantic and calm
Rota preserves the seafaring soul and the tranquility of coastal towns, which can be enjoyed without rushing. In autumn and winter, its beaches—such as La Costilla, Punta Candor, and Rompidillo—become perfect settings for walking, running, or simply breathing in the salty Atlantic air.
Coastal routes, such as the one that connects Rota with Chipiona or the one that borders the Almadraba Natural Park, are an invitation to connect with nature without the crowds.
Rota is also a prime family destination. Little ones can enjoy the beach and outdoor activities. In early November, the Tosantos Market opens offering traditional products, tastings of typical dishes, children’s activities, workshops, and gymkhanas.
Other autumn events in Rota include the 3rd Villa de Rota Plectro Orchestra Meeting on October 25th at the Castillo de Luna, the International Sherry Week activities, which take place from November 3rd to 9th, and the Christmas show by Jonathan Santiago and Manuel Berraquero on December 4th.
Speaking of Christmas, as winter approaches, the streets of the historic center are decorated with Christmas lights and events, turning a stroll through its squares into a magical experience, with the Christmas market and the nativity scene route, both run by associations, brotherhoods, and individuals.

Jerez de la Frontera: The Heart of Andalusian Wine and Culture
Less than half an hour from Rota, Jerez is the perfect complement to an autumn or winter getaway. It’s a city that exudes art, history, and wine, and during these months it’s more authentic than ever.
Are you a wine tourism lover? Jerez is the place for you. There’s no better plan for this season than immersing yourself in the world of wine. The wineries of the Jerez region, many of them centuries old, open their doors to offer guided tours, tastings, and unique sensory experiences.
Imagine walking through the aging warehouses among centuries-old butts, imbued with the aromas of oak and wine, and ending the day with a glass of Amontillado in hand. An unforgettable experience for lovers of wine tourism and Cadiz culture. And, from November 3rd to 9th, a very special event for sherry lovers: International Sherry Week, a worldwide celebration of Sherry wines with activities everywhere.

Heritage and equestrian art
Autumn in Jerez is also a time of culture. You can lose yourself in its historic center, visit the Cathedral and the Alcázar, or enjoy an exhibition from the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, where you can see purebred Spanish horses dance. A little further out, it’s worth visiting the Cartuja de Jerez, a spectacular medieval monastery where the breeding of the purebred Spanish horse began.

Seasonal Flavors
Autumn also brings with it an explosion of flavors. In local restaurants and our own, you can enjoy seasonal produce such as fish from the bay, mushrooms from the pine forests of Rota, or seafood stews that warm the soul. It’s time to eat warm, spoon-fed dishes. Pair these dishes with a white wine from Tierra de Cádiz, a fino sherry, or a manzanilla from Sanlúcar, and you’ll understand why autumn here has its own unique flavor.
The final stretch of the year also brings gastronomic prominence to Jerez’s mosto (mosto). This young wine, made from the last harvest’s grapes, has begun fermentation and has a very special flavor. It is happily served in the so-called mostos (mostos), restaurants that open in the farmhouses scattered throughout the vineyards surrounding the city. Savor your mosto accompanied by hot garlic or Jerezana cabbage while enjoying the sea of vines surrounding you. An experience you can only experience every autumn-winter in Jerez.
Nature and outdoor routes in the province of Cádiz
Beyond the cities, autumn is an invitation to discover the province of Cádiz at its most natural and peaceful. The Doñana Natural Park is one of the most important wetlands in Europe, where you can observe migratory birds during their autumn routes. Also worth a visit is the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park, with trails and wooden walkways perfect for flamingo spotting and bike rides.
And don’t forget the Rota Pine Forest Greenway, ideal for family walks or photo ops, next to the Playa de la Luz Hotel and very close to Punta Candor Suites.
Hiking enthusiasts find paradise in the Sierra de Grazalema, just over an hour from Jerez. The landscapes are tinged with ochre and gold in autumn, offering one of the most beautiful views of the south. And if you visit later in winter, you might be surprised by a snowfall and enjoy the priceless sight of white rooftops and streets.
