Culture
The area offers a multitude of museums of every type:
- for nature lovers (the water museum, "Las Cúpulas" in Benalup
- eco-museums in the Grazalema mountains,...
- artistic (art galleries, religious, sculpture,...)
- traditional (doll museum "del traje corto", anthropology and cultural heritage, the art of flamenco, ...)
- historic (Museum of Cadiz, relics from past civilisations, ruins...)
- house-museums, foundations (such as Rafael Alberti, or Pedro Muñoz Seca, ...)
- specialist (wine, bull fighting, marine)
- and many more.
As for the theatre, you can visit the remains of many roman theatres in the area, there are many types of artistic expressions on offer: zarzuela, opera, classical and choral concerts, dance and flamenco performances, etc.
The carnivals, the local Spring fairs (the "Feria del Caballo" Horse Fair, the "Fiesta de la Urta",...), the Jerez Christmas fairs (including the charming "zambombas"). During the whole year there are many opportunities to participate in the Andalusian culture.
The many castles, house-palaces, fortresses from past times, city walls, and a whole host of buildings that have survived the passing of time and currently house public bodies, private collections and exhibitions....
The Holy Week celebrations are also worthy of a special mention. Besides the pageantry and ornate costumes, you can see priceless religious wood sculptures during the parades through the streets of every Andalusian town and city.
